48. Gravel Pit Nature Reserve
For a completely different experience, the Gravel Pit Nature Reserve in Broadway is widely unknown to a lot of visitors, but it's anonymity is no reflection of its appeal. Open from dawn to dusk, it is one of the best reasons to visit the village for any bird-watching enthusiast. It's location is tucked away behind the Broadway United Football club along Childswickham Road.
The wetland nature reserve, which covers nearly 2 hectares, consists of a seasonally flooded gravel pit supporting woodland, open water and wetland habitats. The Broadway reserve has over 160 recorded species of plant on the site and attracts a wide variety of different species all year round. The Broadway Gravel Pit is currently owned by Wychavon District Council and is managed by the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.
